Specifically, in collaboration with the local authorities in Thriassio and Western Thessaloniki and the environmental organization We4All, we activated more than 1,000 primary school students and organized cleaning of areas over a total of 30 kilometers, where we collected 500kg of waste.
The students attended an interactive educational program, created with We4All's expertise, to understand the problem of pollution, and the need to reduce it, the importance of recycling and the principles of the circular economy. Then followed the cleaning of the premises, the collection and recording of waste in special vouchers and the separation of recyclable and non-recyclable materials.
It is worth noting that, during the cleaning, we discovered that cigarette filters are still the No. 1 item found at the Greek coasts and green spaces. In addition, microplastics and disposable plastics such as bottles and lids, cups, straws and plastic bags were also on the top 10 items commonly found.
